Words cannot describe the absolute chaos that’s waiting on South Africa on the 2nd and 3rd of May, 2014. Asking Alexandria is set to take the stage at Klein Libertas Theatre in Stellenbosch, Western Cape on Friday the 2nd of May and Nasrec Expo Centre, Hall 8, Johannesburg on Saturday the 3rd of May. Asking Alexandria is one of those acts that only have one setting, FULL TILT. I have never had the opportunity to see Asking Alexandria live, but if the ‘live’ YouTube videos are anything to go by, we will not be disappointed.
The only explanation for the Rock-God that is Danny Worsnob, is a soul trade with a super natural being. It is astonishing and, a little bit unfair at the same time, that one front man, can be so talented. To be completely honest, Asking Alexandria does not have a weak-link. Ben Bruce (lead guitar), Cameron Liddell (rhythm guitar), James Cassells (drums) and Sam Bettley (bass guitar) are all damn good musicians in their own right.
The problem that most Metalcore bands face, is sounding as good live, as they do on their recordings. So the natural inclination is to be sceptical about the quality of Asking Alexandria’s live performance. Let’s put those doubts to bed immediately.
Asking Alexandria, live on Jimmy Kimmel, with the song ‘Closure’
I’ve been listening to Asking Alexandria since 2009. The 2008 release, ‘Stand Up and Scream’, is heavy, raw and powerful and back then I thought that Asking Alexandria might be a one-album flash-in-a-pan, but I am so relieved that that did not turn out to be the case. The 2010/11 release ‘Reckless and Relentless’ is all but reckless and definitely relentless. But, the latest album ‘From Death to Destiny’ is a true work of art and is an indication that Asking Alexandria is on track to becoming one of the best metal acts the world has ever seen.
