Join Shades of a Woman highlighting International Jazz Day with one of her fav selektors Bunthu The Ghetto.
Buntu The Ghetto is a Hillbrow-born and bred music curator, and creative force.
Rooted in the vibrant energy of their community, Buntu’s selections are diverse, eclectic, and guaranteed to move bodies and stir souls. Their musical curation is deeply shaped by growing up in Hillbrow, a place where sounds, cultures, and stories collided daily. That upbringing lives in every set, where they weave together jazz, afro folk, soul, kwaito, and wider Afrikan music into something both grounded and electric.
At the heart of it all is the mantra: “Siphila nge ngoma” “(We live through music).
“ For buntu, this is more than a phrase; it’s a belief in music as connection, as expression, as celebration. Through their sets and playlists, they share the rhythms and spirit of the communities that shaped them, while inviting others to
find their own beat.
