Superbalist.com In The City 2016

I love October! And not just because it’s my birthday month or even because it means we’re two months away from December. No, no it’s more than that. The streets look like a 5-year-old’s colouring book, filled with splashes of colours and it seems to pour into people’s hearts. All everyone wants to do is dance in the rain and drink the occasional bottle of brandy. Thankfully the lovely organizational team of In The City, the little sister of Rocking the Daisies, understand this. For 3 years, they have been bringing us Gautengers a day of pure bliss, an entire day of sun, lekker drinks and even lekkerder music.

Luckily for us, klein sussie In The City, joined by her cool friends at Superbalist, has made this year an entire weekend of fun! Here’s everything you need to know for this weekend’s festivities:

07 October: AND Newtown – Liftoff

In association with legendary underground event organiser, TOYTOY, Johannesburg’s premier underground dance event, In The City and Superbalist presents AND Liftoff. The event forms part of AND’s third birthday party. English DJ/producer Eats Everything, Eric Volta and many more will be getting the groove going.

08 October:  Braam Beach Party

What’s lekkerder than flying down to the beach for weekend? Having a beach in the city! That’s right, one big beach party – sans the sharks, lifeguards and guys speaking in surfer lingo. For the line-up, Superbalist In The City have teamed up with Virgin mobile to bring you AKA, PH, At Jazz, DJ Capital and many more.

09 October: In The City – Emmarentia Dam (The Beeeg Fiesta)

What better way to end of a weekend than a party at the dam. The line-up is as diverse as a box of Smarties. From indie to hip hop to electronic! Before I dive into a full paragraph of why I love Foster The People, how about I actually focus on my top 3 picks from the line-up first.

Sol Gems – The new kids on the psychedelic rock scene have been making huge splashes. If you haven’t seen them live yet, do yourself a favour and check them out on Sunday.

Their latest single, Over The Shoulder, is available on SoundCloud. Have a listen here: https://soundcloud.com/sol-gems/over-the-shoulder

Grassy Spark – Do you like your music served with some ska that would make Sublime stop and listen? Then Grassy Sparks is for you. Not even the biggest of hipsters can sit still when they start. I promise you will be sore in the morning but it will be worth it.

Foster The People – The band formed in 2009 and dropped their first album, Torches in 2011. This CD was played on repeat in everyone’s car during the entirety of my university career.

We knew the words better than our exam content. Their latest album, Supermodel, was released in 2014 and made all the warm fuzzies smile in my heart. If you are looking for me on Sunday, you will find me right in front breaking down (dancing not the crying! OK, maybe a bit) right in front of the stage.
